Durban
The weather in Durban is pretty good all year round. Summer - November - March, Autumn - April-May, Winter - June-August, Spring September-October. Highs of about 35 C in summer with lows of about 12 C at night in winter.
Rainy season Late November through December extending into January .Generally a very moderate climate with mild winters and great beach weather from January through April although the beach is usable all year round. Windy season starts about August and can last right through to January. Sea temperature varies slightly with minimums of about 18 C in winter to 24 C .
Cape Town
By European standards the weather in Cape Town is extremely moderate. Temperatures, even in the middle of winter, seldom drop below 10 degrees and in summer seldom rise above 32 degrees. The main rainfall occurs during winter, particularly July and August although regular showers occur from mid-May through to end of September.
From September through to end of January Cape Town is notorious for its south-easterly wind but one can quite easily find protected areas that are not affected by this wind. Beaches such as Clifton and Boulders, for example, are relatively untouched by the south-easter.
The wine lands area, about an hours drive away from the city, is also far less affected by the wind. The town of Hermanus, famous for its whale-watching, enjoys a completely different climate with far less wind but rain showers throughout the year, particularly in the winter months.
Johannesburg
Has a relatively mild climate, with warm, dry summers and moderate winters. Travellers from cooler climates sometimes find that the summers are a bit too warm for them, but it is a generally dry heat which makes it relatively comfortable for people who are from more humid locations.
The rainy season in Johannesburg begins in October and continues through April, with intermittent mild showers occurring throughout that season. Winters are very dry, generally mild with cold clear evenings and bright, sunny days with mild to warm temperatures. Snow and rain in the winter time are almost unheard of.
